Normal Conditions for Exemplar Vehicle Testing (f)
 |
1. Exemplar Vehicle
a. Test vehicle must have good brakes with proportioning valve
working properly.
b. Use 4 wheel ABS enabled test vehicle to replicate 4 wheel
ABS accident vehicle. A braking speed of 45 mph is recommended
for speed calculations over 45 mph.
c. Use Vehicle with standard brakes or disabled ABS to replicate accident vehicle with
standard brakes. A 30 mph braking speed is recommended.
|
|
2. Tires
a. Use OEM all season passenger tires or equivalent.
b. 17 psi and up does not affect friction value.
c. Snow tire may vary friction value.
|
|
3. Minimum test speeds
a. 45 mph for ABS vehicles.
b. 30 mph for vehicles with standard brakes.
|
|
4. Road surface
a. Well maintained paved or concrete surface with a harsh microtecture.
b. Dry surface clear of debris. |
|
5. Brake pedal force / rate
Apply 45 lbs within .020 seconds. |
|
6. Ambient temperature
a. 55° F to 85° F normal range.
b. Below 32°F or above 104°F may decrease f by 4%. |
|
7. Payload
Full payload can decrease f by 5% on some vehicles.
